Breaking news came this morning as many sports sources state that Manchester United number one goalkeeper will be out for two months. What could this mean to United?

Will United youngster Ben Foster get his chance to be in more first team competitive matches?

The Manchester United goalkeeper has gone under the knife after breaking a bone in his left hand. Saving Danijel Pranjic's spot-kick in a 7-6 penalty shootout reverse saw the Dutchman pick up the knock.

With Van Der Sar out for the start of the new season both Tomasz Kuszczak and Ben Foster could get regular starting places, so that United could see how it stands when Edwin Van Der Sar retires.

It is now conformed that Ben Foster is the favourite to start in Manchester United's FA Community Shield match this Sunday between rivals Chelsea.
