IconThe sad news that Chelsea had parted company with Jose Mourinho was broken late last night.

As a non-Chelsea fan, my reasons for liking Mourinho are more for what his personality bought to the English game rather than for purely football reasons.

Mourinho had a big personality which shone most when a big game was imminent. This made the timing of his departure all the more unfortunate with Manchester United being Chelsea's next opponents.

His seemingly random comments and complaints brightened up the pre- and post-match interviews, not to mention his recent egg-and-omlette metaphor.

I think the Premier League will miss his rivalries with Arsene Wenger, Alex Ferguson and Rafa Benitez. But think it's clear that Chelsea will miss him the most.

Anyone who had money on Chelsea to win the Premiership may as well throw away their slip now.
