Cincinnati Bengals Re-Sign CB Jamar Fletcher

After the first day of training camp, Bengals nickelback David Jones suffered what appears to be a semi-serious ankle injury. With very little experience at cornerback beyond starters Leon Hall and the often-injured Jonathan Joseph, the team decided to re-sign Jamar Fletcher to a contract.
Fletcher, a first round pick in 2001 (Miami Dolphins) played 11 games with the Bengals last season before being cut in the offseason. In those 11 games, Fletcher racked up 21 tackles, three pass defenses and recovered one fumble.
It was an obvious move for the Bengals, considering Fletcher's familiarity with the defense; however, I don't think it would be a bad idea to start combing the waiver wire for some additional talent.
While I am certainly no general manager, I don't think it would be a bad idea to take a look at former Pro-Bowl corner Chris McAlister, who was cut earlier this year by the Baltimore Ravens.
McAlister was the 10th overall pick in 1999 and is getting up there in age, but if the Bengals could get him at a fair price, they would be getting a solid corner with a proven track record who knows how to win.
While I assume the Ravens cut McAlister due to his injury history and age, the Bengals wouldn't need him to play except in nickel packages. Additionally, if he would need to play more due to an injury to Hall or Joseph, I would trust him much more than I do Fletcher.
Again, I am by no means a general manager, but it seems to me like a smart insurance policy considering he is still on the market.
