SpVgg Neckarelz 1 - Bayern Munich 3 (DFB Pokal, August 2, 2009) Bayern Munich were held goalless in the first-half by SpVgg Neckarelz, but hit three goals in the second 45 minutes with Mario Gomez scoring twice and Hamit Altintop grabbing the other. The hosts did grab a consolation of their own through Heiko Throm.

Lotte 0 - Bochum 1 (DFB Pokal, August 2, 2009) Bochum only just avoided embarrassment with a narrow win over Lotte thanks to a Diego Klimowicz goal.

Eintracht Trier 3 - Hannover 1 (DFB Pokal, August 2, 2009) Trier became the round’s biggest giantkillers despite going behind just before half-time when Jan Rosenthal netted for Hannover. Martin Wagner and Josef Cinar turned the game around before Sahr Senesie sealed the win in stoppage time.

Oberneuland 0 - Hoffenheim 2 (DFB Pokal, August 2, 2009)

Union Berlin 0 - Werder Bremen 5 (DFB Pokal, August 2, 2009) Bremen had no problems seeing off second division side Union Berlin with both Boubacar Sanogo and new summer signing Marcelo Moreno grabbing a brace. Naldo scored the other goal for Thomas Schaaf’s men.
