NBA Playoffs: Who Should Cheer On to the Eastern Conference Finals?

Joe WillettSenior Writer IMay 13, 2008

I recently gave you reasons to root for certain Western Conference teams that are in the second round of the playoffs.

So now it's time to figure out which teams you want to root on to the Eastern Conference Finals.

The nominees are...

Boston Celtics (facing Cleveland Cavaliers)

Hey everybody, it's your old friend, Celtic Fan.  I know, you want to see LeBron in the Finals because he's "King James" and all that jazz.  But he was there last season, and we all saw how that turned out.

Now we have the Three Amigos, the Boston Three Party, ready to pump us all up in the Finals.

You've been excited about us all year, and on a team full of stars, we have Kevin Garnett who was able to stand out and be an MVP candidate.

We are ready to take it to the next level and make you all forget about single stars and start to make you love the team full of stars that mesh together better than the "stars" in New York.

Cleveland Cavaliers (facing Boston Celtics)

Hey man, long time no see.  You don't remember me, I'm your friend Cavs Fan.  What, you forgot about me because of the less than stellar season?

Well that was dumb of you, and that's probably why LeBron James fell out of the MVP race.

Now, we're in a 2-2 tie with the Celtics trying to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals. Feel pretty foolish, don't you?

We have two guys who can grab rebounds in the oversized Zydrunas Ilgauskas and the offensively challenged Ben Wallace.  Don't worry about the Cavs' shortcomings; worry about the fact that we might just knock out the No. 1 seed in the East.

Wouldn't you like to be able to say "I told you so" to those Boston fans that are so smug in their first-place happiness?

Detroit Pistons (facing Orlando Magic)

Hey, welcome back to Detroit, it's me, Piston Fan.  Don't worry, you don't have to come to our city to support us, we understand that you're afraid, but you can support us in Orlando, because somebody has to fill those seats (I know, cheap shot).

You want to root for a team? Welcome to the best team in the East.

Chauncey Billups, Tayshawn Prince, Rip Hamilton, Rasheed Wallace...we have the ultimate team.

Don't forget the spectacular games against the Celtics; you won't get those games if we aren't in the Finals.

So root for us. We've proven we can do it before and we can do it again.

Orlando Magic (facing Detroit Pistons)

Welcome to Orlando. Don't go to the theme park, come watch the Magic play along with me, Magic Fan.

Everybody loves to root for underdogs, so why not go for the ultimate underdog that nobody has going to the Finals. Throw your support behind the Magic.

Superman YOUUUUUUUUU!!!!!! Sorry, I was just reminiscing about that time that our guy Dwight Howard made everybody's jaws drop in the Dunk Contest.  I know you have that YouTube video favorited.

Howard can't "wow" you like that if he's sitting at home. Okay, maybe he can, but it wouldn't be on national television.

At the time this article was written, the Pistons and Magic were in an extremely close game to decide the fate of the series.

I'm Joe W.
