As one of the greatest fighters ever to step into the octagon, B.J. Penn is, of course, going to be ready to defend his title against former lightweight champion Sean Sherk at UFC 84 on May 24.
B.J. shouldn't have too much pressure on himself with all the experience he has fighting against Hall of Fame MMA fighters such as Matt Hughes, Georges St. Pierre, and Jens Pulver.
As long as B.J. Penn is in shape like he was for the fight against Joe Stevenson, he'll come out victorious.
Sean Sherk is definitely a worthy opponent and a far tougher match up than Joe Stevenson. Sherk has excellent wrestling skills and a motor that never stops due to his conditioning.
People may say Sherk might lose because he is off steroids, but I say he will lose because he does not have enough skills to bring down B.J. Penn. Despite Sherk's excellent wrestling skill, Penn will impose his impressive jiu-jitsu to eliminate it.
That's assuming Sherk can even get B.J. on the ground, because don't forget that Penn has tremendous balance to prevent a takedown. In the last fight against Joe Stevenson, Joe went to shoot at B.J. and he reacted with a beautiful sprawl and ended up doing the splits with ease to have better position.
Sean Sherk usually gets his wins by grinding out the fight to the end by giving beatings. Hopefully for him, he has developed his skills to be more versatile to fight B.J. Penn. Sherk used to have an upside over Penn in his conditioning, but the way B.J. Penn has been looking lately does not look good for Sean Sherk.

Sherk still has the upside in conditioning. That is not in question. Whether or not he wins is another story.
