After a devastating 2nd round TKO victory over Interim Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir at U.F.C. 100, the U.F.C. and Dana White have been scouring the globe in an attempt to find a formidable foe for their current champion Brock Lesnar to no avail. That is the reason the next season of The Ultimate Fighter features the big boys and the likes of Kimbo Slice.
Shockwaves of fervour and adulation were felt in the MMA world when Affliction announced it was cancelling their long anticapted Trilogy event leaving the #1 Ranked Pound for Pound fighter Fedor Emelianenko without a home or a fight.
Enter the U.F.C. and an unprecedented contract offer which had MMA enthusiasts around the world salivating at the prospect of the Russian Superstar becoming the U.F.C. Heavyweight Champion. Negotions apparently fell apart and the much loathed Brock Lesnar remains the champ and looks to stay on top for awhile.
There's no one currently in the U.F.C. line up that matches up well with him. Brock is too big, too agile, and too strong. He's also growing as a MMA Athlete and that poses the problem for the other fighters in his weight class. If Brock (and he will) gets better who can stop him. Like him or not he's becoming a world class fighter and could be on the way to the longest reigning Heavyweight Champion in U.F.C. history.
Shane Carwin has bigger hands and is a great wrestler with knockout power, but his speed and cardio could be the problem, albeit I doubt the fight would go the distance he's a talented fighter and deserves a shot, I just don't like his chances. Brock looks all alone sitting on his throne as the "King" of the Heavyweight division.
Mirko Cro Cop wouldn't match up well agaisnt Brock, somehow he's just not imposing enough. Brock would most likely jab his way in and take it to the ground and pound away a victory early in the fight.
I just really don't see any real challenges out there for the current U.F.C. Champion, Cain Velasqez is a great fighter and deserves a shot but again Brocks just too big and too strong, maybe that's why Fedor didn't sign, his first fight would have been against Brock...makes you wonder eh???
Did I really say Brock "The King" Lesnar... hmm has a nice ring...
