These are my keys to the game for the Flyers for Game three of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Hatcher
He needs to stay off the ice for the most part, except for one scenario: penalty kills. He is so slow that he is actually hurting the team by being on the ice for even strength hockey.
He gives up easily on the play, and cannot win any races to the puck. If the Flyers hope to get on the board in this series, they cannot let Derian Hatcher play 28-plus minutes.
Attitude
The Flyers need to go into this game with the right attitude. Sure, Pittsburgh may be the better team on paper and throughout the season, but they did lose to this Philly team five out of eight times this year, including four times in Philadelphia.
John Stevens and the coaching staff need to make these Flyers believe they do have a chance. If they can win these two games at home, this will be a new series. If not, the series will be over.
Relax
Many people say the Flyers need to get “psyched up,” or however people word it. In reality, all they have to do is relax. They are not expected to win, so there is no pressure, no expectations.
They just need to go out and play their game as they did in the first series. If they were able to beat Montreal in five games, they can surely beat Pittsburgh in six or seven.
This is one writer hoping that his team's season does not come to an abrupt end after such a great Cinderella run.
