Analysis: Are the Mariners really buyers at the deadline? Do they really have a chance to make the playoffs? Either way, great trade for Seattle.
They do give up some good prospects, but Snell is still very young, and has an incredibly bright future. Wilson will be a good shortstop and become a leader on the M's for the next three years.
Wilson had a .267, average with four home runs and 31 RBI with Pittsburgh. Snell had a 2-8 record with a 5.36 ERA before he was sent down to AAA Indianapolis.
Cedeno had a .167 aveage with Seattle, along with five home runs and 17 RBI. Clement is yet to play in the majors this season.
Verdict: The Mariners win this trade, no matter how good the prospects turned out. After the terrible sports year of 2008 for the city of Seattle, 2009 is turning into a great one.
However, in 2002, the Montreal Expos traded Grady Sizemore and Cliff Lee to the Indians for Bartolo Colon to help the down the stretch run. The Expos missed the playoffs in 2002, and Lee and Sizemore could've helped the Expos stay in Montreal. Instead, Sizemore is a fan favorite in Cleveland, and Lee was the AL Cy Young award winner in 2008. The same could happen with this deal.
