Fantasy Football: The Case For LaDainian Tomlinson
Last year around this time everyone was squawking about LaDainian Tomlinson as they had for several seasons before. But those who took him and expected 1,800 yards and 25 touchdowns were whining by about mid-season. I even remember hearing some people comment that they would never draft the Charger back again. That is just silly.
Let’s check out the facts here: LT racked up a total 1,110 yards and 11 TDs last season. That’s top ten in the league in both numbers. He even tallied receiving stats (426 yards and a TD). Oh, and he fumbled once all season. One time.
What might have been missing from the equation when everyone decided to take Tomlinson as their number one is that he was almost 30 (he turned 30 in June). He’s been the top dog in San Diego for years and he’s gotten run down.
It happens to every running back and most never put up numbers like Tomlinson’s, especially for so many years in a row. He’s topped 1,000 yards and ten TDs each of the nine years he’s been in the league. He was ailing last year and still managed to start all 16 games and get some production.
We’re not talking about a flash in the pan here. It’s Tomlinson, one of the best running backs in the game. If there’s anyone you should trust to make the best of the opportunities he gets, it’s Tomlinson.
So is he worthy of a number one pick this season? No. Was he last season? Probably not. But is he still capable of putting up numbers for your fantasy squad this year? Yes.
