From NextRound.net, via With Leather, comes this look at the Philadelphia Passion of the Lingerie Football League. The league kicks off September 4th and will play its games on Friday nights. There are ten teams, which is six more than the UFL has, so that's a positive sign. Take a look at this video featuring Jackie Danico, the QB and captain of the Philly Passion as she tells you all about the new league.


"Almost, I wouldn't say mimic, but it'd be like copying the NFL players..." Um, aren't mimic and copy the same thing? Ah, you weren't listening to what she was saying anyway, were you? Another of my favorite quotes from this clip is, "We defense each other. You know, throw the ball to one and the other one tries to get it." Groundbreaking stuff here.

She says they just want to be respected like a real sports team. Hmm, that's going to be pretty hard when the name of your league is the Lingerie Football League. They couldn't have gone with "Women's Football League" and then just dressed in lingerie? That would have provided some legitimacy in name at least.

Seriously, though, they actually look like they know what they're doing in terms of football. The plays look like more than your backyard variety two-hand touch schemes and maybe it will be entertaining. But the league is not marketing it as "attractive women playing football." They are marketing it as "Hey, we're all hot and in lingerie, and we're going to tackle each other!"

Somewhere, Janeane Garofalo is not very happy about this.
