Funny People: 10 Athletes That Crack Us Up
Adam Sandler's new vehicle Funny People comes out Friday, but reviews coming in say that the movie doesn't quite live up to its name.
That's okay. If I need to laugh, all I need to do is turn to sports. Some of the funniest people out there are actually athletes.
Let's take a look at 10 Athletes That Crack Us Up.
Shaquille O'Neal
Shaq is not only one of the biggest people in sports, he also has one of the largest personalities. Whether he is acting, rapping, giving out great quotes, or trying to be a police officer, it is never boring around the Big Aristotle.
The latest way Shaq has injected his humor into our lives is through Twitter. His tweets are as frequent as they are indistinguishable, but they are always entertaining. As are the twit pics he puts up, such as this one.
Funniest Quote:
"I've won at every level, except college and pro."
Yogi Berra
The original funny athlete, Yogi Berra always had a good quip or quote ready to go, and his have stood the test of time. He even had a word made up to describe them: Yogiisms.
While many of these Yogiisms may seem half-witted, Berra was quick and clever with his words. If you were laughing at him, it's because he wanted you to.
Funniest Quotes:
"Ninety percent of the game is half mental."
"When you come to a fork in the road, take it."
"It's déjà vu all over again."
Peyton Manning
This one was surprising. For the longest time, people saw Manning as kind of a "blah" athlete, one who didn't have a lot of personality.
Then Manning hosted a shockingly funny Saturday Night Live and broke out a bunch of funny commercials on us, outing himself as a truly funny athlete.

Charles Barkley
When Barkley was in the NBA, he had the reputation of a straight shooter. He would always speak his mind, no matter how un-PC or hilarious his thoughts were.
After retiring, Chuck found his way to television, where we got to experience the awesomeness that is Charles Barkley on a regular basis. Producers realized that as long as they kept a camera rolling on him at all times, great things would happen.
The only thing funnier than what comes out of Barkley's mouth might be his golf swing.
Funniest Quotes:
(After getting into an altercation with a player on the Angola team in the Olympics) "Somebody hits me, I'm going to hit him back. Even if it does look like he hasn't eaten in a couple weeks. I thought he was going to pull a spear on me."
"I can be bought. If they paid me enough, I'd work for the Klan."
"Every time I think about changing a diaper, I run a little bit harder and a little bit faster to make sure I can afford a nanny until my daughter's old enough to take care of that herself."
Rickey Henderson
Cooperstown's newest resident was always good for a laugh during his playing days. Between his affinity for talking in the third person to his hilariously oversized ego, Rickey Henderson was always must see TV.
Henderson's Hall of Fame speech was one of the most anticipated in recent history. Although it was more subdued than people expected, he did not disappoint, telling stories about how he was bribed into playing baseball with donuts.
Funniest Quote:
“This is Rickey calling on behalf of Rickey. Rickey wants to play baseball.”
Chad Ochocinco
Chad Johnson may be a clown, but sometimes clowns can be pretty funny.
Just the fact that he went through all the trouble of changing his name to Chad Ochocinco so he could put it on the back of his jersey still cracks me up.
His touchdown celebrations, his adamant goal to twitter during a game, and him moving in with his quarterback are all pretty funny.
If only his game hadn't turned into a joke too.
Funniest Quote:
(On the cheerleader he proposed to during a celebration) “Man, she took half of everything I had. I should’ve never did that. Why are you all laughing? I’m serious."
Chris Bosh
Like Peyton Manning, Chris Bosh was another comedic talent who flew below the radar, only to unleash his humor on the world in video form.
For the 2008 All-Star Game, Bosh made a video of him acting as a used car salesman, urging fans to vote him into the game. Not only did it work, it also shot him into this list for his funny and original idea.

Muhammad Ali
Muhammad Ali was the funniest trash talker the sports world has ever known. Nobody could put down their opponents as charmingly as Ali did.
Also cementing his status as one of the funniest athletes of all time was his constant back-and-forth with announcer Howard Cosell. Just check out the video below to see what I mean.
Funniest Quotes:
"I'll beat him so bad he'll need a shoehorn to put his hat on."
"Sonny Liston is nothing. The man needs boxing lessons. And since he's gonna fight me, he needs falling lessons!"
Manny Ramirez
Without even trying, Manny Ramirez has managed to become one of today's funniest athletes. We even had to come up with a phrase to describe his antics: Manny being Manny.
Manny's done such crazy things as leave in the middle of an inning to go to the bathroom in the Green Monster, name two of his three sons Manny, and high-five a fan after catching a fly ball.
Funniest Moment:
Rasheed Wallace
Sheed is one of my favorite players as far as humor goes. Although he's primarily known for technical fouls, he has a great sense of humor.
My favorite thing is how much he cracks on his teammates and has nicknames for each of them. Just check out the videos of him doing trick shots to see the funny way he interacts with his teammates.
