Obituary: Seattle Mariners' 2008 Season Dies Young

Braden MooreAnalyst IMay 12, 2008

The 2008 Seattle Mariners' season died late on Monday in Arlington, at the young age of six weeks.  It was a tragic loss, as the young season barely had begun to embark on its journey of life.

The cause of death was a combination of many factors, and doctors will not pinpoint the precise cause of death until a full autospy has been performed.   However, many others have speculated on the true cause of death, and rumors include:

  • Complications from old age(d players)
  • Inflated expectations
  • Rib and back injuries
  • Cancer(ous clubhouse members)
  • Lack of skill
  • Brain (trust) disease

The city of Seattle has taken the news pretty hard, and will hold public memorial services throughout the summer at Safeco Field.

The 2008 Seattle Mariners should be a reminder to us all that life is fleeting and can be taken away when least expected.  They are a reminder to us all to play every game like it is our last.

The 2008 Seattle Mariners were survived by the expectations for 2009, campaigns to fire Bill Bavasi, and the chance to spoil rivals' seasons.
