Several sources have broken the news that Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz and former Red Sox left fielder Manny Ramirez tested positive in a 2003 test for performance-enhancing drugs. This is the same test that both Alex Rodriguez and Sammy Sosa are also said to have tested positive in.

In February, Ortiz suggested that the MLB ban any player who tests positive for steroids for up to a whole year.

Manny having tested positive comes as little surprise, as he tested positive earlier this season for HGC, which is a drug that helps return from a steroid cycle.

Ramirez played for the Red Sox from 2001 to last season. In his eight years with Boston, he batted .312 with 274 home runs and 868 RBI. In his career, he is a .315 hitter with 538 home runs. On a 162-game average, Manny has hit 41 home runs and 133 RBI over his career.

Ortiz has played for Boston since 2003, the year the test was taken. In seven seasons with Boston, he has hit .290 with 244 of his 302 career home runs. On a 162-game average, Ortiz has hit 35 home runs and driven in 119 RBI over his career.

Both players were large parts of Boston's two World Series championships in 2004 and 2007. Ortiz was the hero of the 2004 ALCS, winning the MVP of that series, while Manny won the World Series MVP in that same year.
