According to the New York Times, Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz both tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003.

Lawyers told the paper Ortiz and Ramirez were among the roughly 100 major league players to test positive in '03.

The results were supposed to be kept secretive.

Along with Ortiz and Ramirez, the list includes Sammy Sosa and Alex Rodriguez.

Ortiz and Ramirez were both key players to the Red Sox 2004 and 2007 World Series Championships.

Asked about the 2003 drug test on Thursday in Boston, Ortiz shrugged. “I’m not talking about that anymore,” he said. “I have no comment.”

Ramirez had already been suspended for 50 games this season when he tested positive for a banned substance earlier in 2009.

During spring training this year Ortiz expressed his thoughts on players who test positive.

"I think you clean up the game by testing," Ortiz said. "You test positive, you’re going to be out. Period."
