College Football, SEC Football

Ryan Perrilloux was finally dismissed from the LSU football team after yet another screw up and breaking of team rules. The latest failed drug test was just one incident in a long line of mistakes the quarterback has made in his time at LSU.

Coming out of high school, Perrilloux was labeled a "can't miss" prospect by the recruiting services and was the most coveted quarterback in the nation out of Baton Rouge.

I mean, who wouldn't want a 6'3", 230-pound quarterback that can run and throw?

Now, he's just another player who has seemingly thrown away his career due to a laundry list of screw ups (including being a main suspect involved in a counterfeit investigation, entering a casino with a fake ID, being involved in a situation at a bar where he supposedly used racial slurs and was starting trouble, and missing team meetings and being late for a number of team workouts).

Would you still want him?

You have a guy who's got all the talent in the world, but also seems to have some serious character flaws. What coach, whose job rides on winning and losing, wouldn't want to take a chance with him?

Obviously, Les Miles had enough of Perrilloux. Miles gave him too many chances, and Perrilloux had to be gone to avoid a team mutiny.

So now Division II schools all over the country are calling up the quarterback wanting him to come to their school...sound familiar?

The kid is being recruited all over again. He's being told how good he is and that they are the school that can get him to the NFL and turn him around. And no doubt these coaches are telling themselves that they can "save" Perrilloux.

Do you actually believe that?

These coaches see a talented quarterback and a guy who can help them win, period.

The problem with this scenario is that with Perrilloux being recruited again, he is also again being told how great he is. Do you think he even realizes how much he screwed up at LSU? Do you think he even cares? Maybe he did at first, but now I'm sure he's just loving the attention.

I guess all he needs is a change in scenery, right? So Perrilloux is the kind of guy that's swayed by his surroundings? What kind of leader will that make?

Bottom line is some school wants Perrilloux to help them win, and they don't really care if they turn him around or not. If he messes up then they will just kick him off their team and he will become someone else's problem.

  1. i would find it hard for a div 1a school to take a chance on him (plus he doesn't want to sit out when he transfers).

but for a div1-aa school, it might not be that big of a risk. probably an increase in tix sales and program visability. on the other hand opposing schools can use the character issue for negative recruiting if he does sign with a rival school.
"you don't want to go to that school, that's the school that took perrilloux"

basically it's up to perrilloux himself. if he stays out of trouble and excels on the field it'll be a great move for the school that takes him. if he messes up again, it''ll be a colossal failure.

    high risk, high reward.

but after as many tresspasses as he's had and seemingly not learning from them, the emphasis may be on "risk".

  2. Jackson State and Grambling are my two front runners in the chase for Perriloux.

  3. Obviously if he has been in all sorts of trouble, who would want to deal with the drama he brings? It's too bad that he had to get into the trouble he got in. Ryan had a lot going for him. He now has an unpredictable future ahead of him. Hopefully he can get his life together and be successful at another college.

  4. the word here is jacksonville state but that was a few days ago.

  5. RP just spent two days at Jacksonville State meeting with the team and touring the campus. Jack Crowe, JSU's head coach, has traditionally recruited guys who have been kicked off of SEC teams and for discipline problems and then kept them out of trouble, but we will see how this turns out.
