Welcome to life in the age of the Internet.
Within hours of a report that Urlacher used a derogatory word to describe new Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler in a conversation with Vikings player Bobby Wade, the linebacker set the record straight.
In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Urlacher tried to douse the flames, stating, "That's just Bobby being Bobby. I'm pretty sure Jay knows I wouldn't say that about him. ... I have no problem with Jay, I think we're all excited about Jay. That's why we made the trade. He's obviously one of the best quarterbacks in the league. I think we have a better chance to win the Super Bowl with him at quarterback."
He added, "I don't think I would ever say that about one of my teammates."
Although, if true, the comment was shocking, it would not be entirely unexpected. After the April 3rd trade that sent a mountain of draft picks and starting quarterback Kyle Orton to Denver in exchange for Cutler, Urlacher was asked his opinion about the trade.
"I guess we got better as a team," he stated. Not exactly a rousing approval of Bears GM Jerry Angelo's biggest offseason acquisition in his career.
Wade backed off of his comments, stating he was only trying to initiate a feud, and even offered to call Bears coach Lovie Smith to calm some nerves.
With training camp only days away, do not expect this story to disappear so quickly. Surely ESPN and Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com will need to fill up headline space left behind by non- existent "Favre to Vikings" articles.

We're going to send you the most entertaining Chicago Bears articles, videos, and podcasts from around the web.
