"Since I came to the Major Leagues, I couldn't train in my own way. If I’m forced to continue to train in this environment, I may no longer be able to pitch like I did in Japan.” --Dice K speaking to a Japanese newspaper
51 MILLION DOLLARS (plus 14 million in salary) for two years of service. Dice K has always been irrelevant for the Red Sox. He was on the 2007 World Series Championship team but didn't play a major role in the team winning.
The Sox could have spent that money on an impact player. Someone who could have made a difference. Someone who would have played with HEART and DEDICATION.
Oh, you didn't hear? Dice K was MVP of two World Baseball Classics while pitching for Japan. Yet when he pitches for the Sox, he looks like the middle aged, middle management type who is just showing up to collect his paycheck.
A classic rock song by The Doors song comes to mind right now. It goes something like this: "this is the end [dum dum dum] my only friend the end."
