I just wanted to say a bit about this commercial, but it has turned into a little more than I thought that it would. As I began to think of Michael Jordan I found that there was a lot that I wanted to say. I narrowed it down to talk of his commercials, which are numerous, but usually really good.

No one can forget the Bird vs. Jordan "Game of HORSE" commercials for McDonald's. Obviously, there was also the fantastic stuff he did with Spike Lee. I could go on and on, but suffice it to say that I even liked one of the more recent ones, especially that one where he swats the grape away from the mouth of Kevin Bacon.

This new one is amazing. It works extremely well, and could even be thought of as a short film. I have tried to identify the director, but could not achieve any results. I guess that I feel that this commercial has such a high motivational level because it is the ultimate---I used to be just like you---- even though Michael Jordan has achieved world-wide fame.

The shots are contemplative and well chosen, the acting in the film focuses primarily on the faces of the athletes as they consider the words that Michael says to them. The compositions of his childhood living places serve to bring out the commonality, but they also point toward the ferocious drive and hard work that was required to build not only a champion, but also to create a persona.

When discussing these advertisements, Michael's considerable talent for moving product always comes up. This essay is your basic freshman level of analysis of the impact that Michael Jordan has had as a spokesperson and how he supposedly fit the mold that Phil Knight was looking to create. I think that it is terribly ignorant to write this way. Michael Jordan is still one of the top 10 most recognizable athletes in the world, even though he hasn't played in over 5 years.

Overall, I just thought that this piece of work was excellent, and worthy of mention.

  1. I love the become legendary commercials. The one that ends with "There are no Cinderellas" is really good too.
