Kelvin Sampson, former Indiana University men's basketball coach and NCAA rules violator, has left the Milwaukee Bucks organization.

Sampson was recently hired to be an assistant on Scott Skiles' Milwaukee Bucks staff.

On Sunday, Sampson announced he would be leaving the organization after a very short stay.

"I was approached by another organization and they gave me an offer I couldn't refuse," Sampson said. "They convinced me that my career was in telecommunications, not in coaching."

The organization — Verizon Wireless — convinced Sampson that he would be a perfect fit for their new "Will you play for me now?" campaign.

Sampson cited several reasons for accepting the position, the biggest one being his excellence in persistent phone call use.

"He's no stranger to excessive phone calling and text messaging," a Verizon spokesperson said Sunday. "He'll be a great fit with our company."

Verizon's monthly plan will give Sampson unlimited minutes and text messaging.

"My new monthly plan will allow me to talk to every potential D-1 basketball player and the NCAA can't restrict that," Sampson said. "That way, if I ever get back into coaching, there will be a multitude of recruits I've already been in contact with for years."

Verizon has not placed any restrictions on Sampson regarding future recruiting endeavors.

  1. Good for Sampson. I'm glad he found a way to make light of him cheating the game and ruining IU's basketball season. From the time the allegations came out, IU basketball was not the same. So yeah, I'm glad he could find happiness from screwing up an entire season.

  2. very funny. i sure am glad that sampson is doing fine while as of right now, IU is going to have recruit kids from the band to fill out the roster.

  3. Kelvin Sampson is a cheater and will always be known for being a cheater. He cheated some many times for recruiting. I read in an article awhile back on the players he has made phone calls with and other illegal actions and i saw McCamey on there, but he wised up and went to the U of I. Also, I saw a name that was blacked out hmmm but there was a part of the name there and it was Jr. Which player could it be ERIC GORDON JR.!!! He screwed the Illini over and I will never forgive him for that!!!

  4. He was only a verbal commitment - verbals arent binding. His dream was to play for the Hoosiers and as long as Mike Davis Jr. wasnt at the helm he was going to be in the Cream and Crimson. Eric Gordon's father, Eric Sr. also said that the Illini staff contacted him at illegal times, as well as other schools. Illinois fans need to grow and get over it, he was a one and done.
