Winnipeg Blue Bombers Sign Big Armed Quarterback Michael Bishop

It was announced today that the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed former Argonaut and Roughrider Michael Bishop. Terms of the contract were not announced but I can't see it being very long time.

The Blue Bombers are the lowest scoring team in the CFL so far and are really desperate for some offense which they hope the strong arm of Michael Bishop can bring. The Bombers showed a pathetic display of football against the Argos in week 4 as they only scored 5 points with their three QB's (Stefan Lefors, Bryan Randall and Richie Williams) threw for two interceptions and 66 yards on 11-26 completions. There are rumours now that the Bombers will try to trade away one of their other three quarterbacks, but I can't see any team wanting anyone other than Richie Williams.

Bishop, who finished second in Heisman trophy voting to Ricky Williams in 1998 has had stints in the NFL, and with the Riders and the Argos has been sub par. Bishop has thrown for 51 touchdowns, 56 interceptions, 8,737 yards. He has also ran for over 1,300 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns.

Mike Kelly and the rest of the Bombers desperately hope the Bishop can move the offense better than the other Bombers' QB's have.
