Whether the 2009 Allstate 400 met your expectations or not, one thing is for sure—it was eventful in one way or another.
Whether it was the candy car possibly being out of the chase or the two timer winner, it left people watching and wondering. And these moments were the highlights of the race!
I have to fill this some more, so I am going to say it was rather disappointing to see drivers who ran well have bad luck. It's never good to see.
First Lap is Also First Caution.
As the green flag dropped at the start of the Allstate 400, so did the caution flag. Robby Gordon had spun coming off turn four and slides to a stop.
Mark Martin leads that first lap and on lap five, the race started again.
Lap Five Has New Leader: Juan Pablo Montoya
On lap five, Mark Martin lost control a bit and that allowed Juan Pablo Montoya to grab the lead; by lap 21, Montoya had the fastest car.
He was the force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately, on Lap 127 Montoya is given a penalty for driving to fast down pit road.
He ended up restarting 12th and finishing 11th.
On Lap 58, Kyle Busch Heads into the Garage
Kyle Busch had worked his way up to ninth position, when a right front tire blew causing him to hit the wall.
With huge damage, he eventually headed into the garage and stood outside the top 12 in points.
What a shocker it would be if Kyle Busch didn't make the chase.
On lap 128 Dale Earnhardts Car Goes Up in Smoke
The race that Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans were thinking was the defining race for this season fell short, as his car went up in smoke, causing him to head for the garage, which lead to a DNF.
Jr. held partial responsibility for the motor, though it isn't certain what happened.
On Lap 138, Jimmie Johnson Takes the Lead and Wins the Race
On Lap 138, Jimmie Johnson took the lead from teammate Mark Martin and continued on to win his second Brickyard race in a row. J
Jimmie worked his way up and was a definite contender—so much so that he went on to win.
Once again, a congratulations to Jimmie Johnson and the No.48 team.
Bonus—No Major Tire Problems!
After last year debacle about Goodyear tires, every driver was hoping this year wouldn't be a repeat.
After 11 months of testing and working with the drivers, Goodyear worked out their flaws and weren't blamed for accidents during the 2009 Allstate 400.
The End
This was not meant to be a recap of the whole race, but more so the moments that defined the race.
