It makes no sense for the Eagles to trade Lito Sheppard this season, unless it brings in a veteran player who can make a difference.
Why trade him for a pick next year? That does the team no good, and only weakens them this year. The Eagles can make the deal for a number two next offseason. Why not keep Lito for another year and have a superb secondary?
Now, people will argue that Lito could become a cancer because he's unhappy...well guess what, Lito is not T.O. Lito won't go out of his way to make trouble like T.O. did. Lito knows that no one in the league is willing to pay him top money until he can prove that he'll stay healthy for a full season.
It is in his best interest to be the good soldier for a year, play his heart out, and have a solid year whether he's starting or coming off the bench. He'll get his money, and ticket out of town next year, much like Deuce Staley did after the 2003 season.
I believe the Eagles realize what an asset Sheppard can be to them this year, and will not just give him away. They showed that during draft day when they refused to deal him.

I agree unless its for Anquan Boldin or some big time receiver;
I'm usually not a proponent of giving up talent for receivers (whose position itslef is overrated in terms of winning championships, and who can easily be found in late in nearly every draft.) However the Eagles have the talent already in place in which such a move could propel them to the next level. Offensively it would help in theses ways
1. Give McNabb a legitimate #1 receiver
2. It would take some of the load off the most underrated offensive weapon in the NFL;Brian Westbrook,
3. It would allow Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown to dominate single coverages. I could only imagine the defensive problems Curtis would cause in the slot postion. Imagine a much faster Wes Welker.
