College Basketball: Jeremiah Rivers Flowing to Indiana

Georgetown guard Jeremiah Rivers, recently seen wearing a Hoosier jumpsuit in Assembly Hall, is reportedly transferring to IU.

The sophomore guard averaged 2.5 points and 2.4 rebounds in 18.4 minutes of playing time last season under head coach John Thompson III.

Rivers is an excellent defender and ball-handler and fits in well with IU coach Tom Crean's perimeter-based style of play.

Jeremiah, son of Celtics head coach Doc Rivers, took an unofficial visit to Bloomington on Friday and was familiar with Crean after playing against him in the Big East. His father is also familiar with Crean and was a former Marquette standout.

Apparently leaving Georgetown wasn't what the "Doc" ordered, as the older Rivers was not pleased with Jeremiah's decision to leave the Hoya program.

The 6-foot-4 point guard could be a big boost to the Hoosiers when he becomes eligible to play in the 2009-2010 season. IU only returns one guard from the previous season, sophomore Jordan Crawford from Detroit. Crawford averaged 12.5 ppg this season for the Hoosiers. (His brother Joe just completed his senior year at Kentucky.)

Rivers was listed as a three-star, according to Rivals.com, upon graduating from high school in 2006.

    The Marquette connection must have had an influence. It appears that Coach Crean is looking for specific role players that will fit at Indiana. We got a look at having too many stars trying to make an immediate jump to the NBA played like last season.

    If Rivers can distribute the ball, play tough defense and score when the opportunity is there, he will be a welcome addition to IU.

    Good luck with that. His lack of confidence is palpable and he's an offensive nightmare.I don't understand this move personally because he needs playing time in order to ameliorate this and he'll be getting absolutely none for an entire year. Get your curse words ready come 2010.
