Another beautiful day in the Bronx for the third of four as the Yankees looked to win their extended series.
Oakland starter was Gio Gonzalez (1-2) and the Yankees went with the veteran Andy Pettitte (8-5)
This game was a great pitching matchup, Gonzalez had a no-hitter thru four. and Pettite had only 2 hits allowed after six.
But the runs began to came in the bottom of the sixth after an RBI triple after Brett Gardener made the score 1-0 NYY after six.
Top seven the A's broke thru Pettite...with runners on 1st/2nd and no one out Alfredo Aceves came in and by the time the half inning was over, Oakland had a 6-1 lead.
The Yankees bats came alive again in the eighth as the comeback kids went to work as Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira hit back to back HR's as the Yankees were only down 6-4 now after eight.
In the ninth, Oakland closer Andrew Bailey walked Melky Cabrera and Johnny Damon as the stage was set for Jorge Posada. With an 0-2 count Jorge created a tailor made double play scored 4-6-3 as now there were two men out with Cabrera at third and the next batter Jeter flew out to deep center making the final score Oakland 6 New York 4.
The Yankees lose their eight game winning streak as they fall to 59-38 and the A's are still in the abyss in the AL West.
Oakland/NY wrap up the four game series tomorrow at Yankee Stadium 1:05 ET.
Final box scores were: OAK: 6R,9H,0E...NYY: 4R,6H,0E
CJ's MVP: Gio Gonzalez (OAK) 6.2 IP, 2H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K
