For the Stars to recover from the disheartening loss to the Detroit Red Wings in Game 1, they must get back to basics. The Stars came out in Game 1 looking to set the tone, but instead, they came out looking semi-intimidated to be in the Joe. They must forget about Game 1 and move on because a 2-0 series deficit against the Wings could mean certain death. Much like the Dallas Stars proved to the Anaheim Ducks in the first round.
Rumor has it that Coach Dave Tippett of the Stars is going to completely switch up the defensive pairings for Game 2. Although this seems a little panic-like to me, in the end, it is probably a smart move. The defense must perform light years better than they did in Game 1. Bottom line, they must protect Turco and prevent him from facing so many shots.
The Stars offense must play on both sides of the puck as well. (Didn’t I say this for Game 1?) They must aid the defense, but still have the legs to get up and moving on the break out. They will be the deciding factor in Game 2.
Goaltender Marty Turco needs to slow down and relax. Yeah, so he’s playing at the Joe…big deal. Turco needs to take a deep breath and play the sort of hockey that got the Stars to the Western Conference Finals. Then again, the entire team needs to relax and get back to basics.
Finally, the Stars must draw blood; if they can do this, they will surely set the tone and will most likely take out the Red Wing faithful early in the game. If the Stars put the Red Wings on their heels, it could mean a more pleasant game for the Stars than Game 1.
