I wrote an article earlier this week titled, "Black Athletes: Just One Arrest after the Next".
The article was the buzz of Bleacher Report, and created a stir by some of the members of the community. I even received hatred filled posts on my wall from users like MJ.
The article was deemed to be "Too Hot for Bleacher Report" and removed from the site. This inspired me to write a similar article with a different spin.
This past week, Cedric Benson, Richard Jefferson, Marvin Harrison, and Carmelo Anthony all had run-ins with the law. Holding a gun, speeding tickets, bars fights, you name it, they've done it. These stories all found their way to the top of ESPN.
But why is this happening?
ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports, is making the stories of these athletes which have nothing to do with their ability to play the game on the floor, a top story. You can argue that these athlete's are putting themselves in the public view by making millions of dollars, and they have an obligation to serve the public.
But if they don't, why does it go on ESPN? Why do I need see Marvin Harrison as a top story for shooting someone at a Harrison family owned car wash?
"I'd rather read about the WNBA, then another athlete getting arrested."
It just comes to a point, where all of the legal issues ruins part of the integrity of the game.
Michael Vick, is a prime case.
Who could care less? He committed a crime, so go to jail. I could care less. Put him in jail, and don't show him the light of day until he gets out.
I don't want to here another word about Michael Vick until he gets back on the football field.
Roger Clemens was the top story on ESPN, day after day. I don't understand the point of it. Is the media trying to prove something? I don't care about his wife.
Why does the media keep giving Jose Canseco attention? Let him write another book without you mentioning this idiot. Don't try to argue Canesco's case; he's nothing but a lifeless money craving loser.
He recently put his house up for sale saying that the $40 million that he owned over his career went faster then he thought. If you need money, don't try to extort Magglio Ordonez.
But if you are going to extort Ordonez, just keep in mind that it will probably make it to SportsCenter.
Oh yeah, and Dennis Rodman was just arrested.
