On July 23, Manchester United chief executive David Gill announced that money is available for manager Sir Alex Ferguson for a transfer. He reiterated a previous statement from the Glazer family last month that none of the money from the 80 million pound transfer from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo will be used to help fix the Glazer family debt from buying the team in 2005.
The current debt for Man United from the Glazer family is around 700 million pounds.
Even though Sir Alex does not feel there is sufficient value to be had in the transfer market, Gill has told Fergie that the money is available in case of a potential move.
So far in this summer's transfer window, United have gotten Antonio Valencia, Michael Owen, Gabriel Obertan and Mame Biram Diouf.
Also in his statement, Gill told what he thought about the loss of stars Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid and Carlos Tevez to rivals Manchester City.
About Ronaldo, Gill stated that he did not expect Real Madrid to make such a huge move for Ronaldo, but the money was to good to leave on the table.
Gill also stated that he doesn't understand the economics of what Real Madrid are doing as it appears that Real aren't making any money with these huge transfers. Gill stated that it is none of his business about what Real Madrid do.
Carlos Tevez has slammed United in recent weeks, claiming that United showed no real effort to sign him. Gill stated that Tevez clearly had issues with Manchester United, and he couldn't grasp what being a member of a squad was. That forced his move.
Gill also stated that Tevez left United for City for the money, and Manchester United has moved on without Carlos Tevez.
