Ted Lilly started off a little unbalanced in the first inning, as Arizona's Chris Young gave Cub fans an '07 playoff flashback by smashing a first-inning homer, giving Arizona the early lead. But from that point on, Lilly proceeded to dig in and simply got better as the game progressed.
Lilly went seven innings, giving up one run on three hits, with only two walks and struck out ten. Great outing Ted.
The Cubs' offense really didn't show up until the fifth inning, when it was Lilly who gave the spark Chicago needed with a ripped single to center, scoring Mark DeRosa. He was followed by a smoked-double down the left field line by Alfonso Soriano, scoring the ever present Reed Johnson, which ended up being the nail in the Diamondbacks' coffin.
Players of the game were Ted Lilly and Alphonso Soriano.
Honorable mentions go to Mark DeRosa for breaking out of a slump, going two for three and scoring a run. Derrek Lee also blasted an insurance run to the left center field bleachers.
Final Score: Cubs 3 Diamondbacks 1—CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN!

Thanks for the recap Mike. The Cubs never stop to surprise you - one minute they can't beat Cincinnati, next they beat the best team in baseball. Go figure.

I was at this game and the one thing that stood out to me was the toughness Ted Lilly displayed. The temperature during the game was in the 40's with wind chills below freezing, yet Lilly was wearing short sleeves. He was attacking hitters, punding them inside then mixing in his breaking ball. Lilly then helped his own cause in the biggest part of the game, driving in the tying run. Does everyone think the Ted Lilly of last year is finally back?

4 quality starts in a row for Lilly. He's back Sam. Thanks for the comments guys.
I was surprised when Mark Grace, while singing during the 7th inning stretch said, "root root root for the Cubbies....." and he stressed "Cubbies" louder. He may be a commentator for Arizona but he is a Cub thru and thru.
Grace has been my favorite Cub since Bill Buckner
