For the tens of thousands of Rangers fans heading to Manchester next week for the UEFA Cup final, Manchester authorities have decided to place big outdoor screens in the fan zones at Albert Square, Piccadilly Gardens and Cathedral Gardens, giving all fans the chance to watch the match.
With this latest measure, supporters present in Manchester will have the opportunity to follow the action at key venues across the city centre, as well as in assorted pubs and clubs.
Zenit, playing in their first European showpiece, are seeking to emulate the success of compatriots CSKA Moskva who became the first Russian team to lift a continental trophy in this competition three years ago.
Rangers FC reached the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup final three times and, beat FC Dynamo Moscow to win the tournament in 1972.
The game will be a battle between Zenit’s attacking prowess and Rangers tight defense. Rangers have not conceded a goal in the competition in more than eight hours and have conceded just two goals in the competition. Zenit on the other hand are a free-scoring team who thrashed Bayern Munich 4-0 in the semi-final second leg.
Rangers have to hope to keep this game tight and win 1-0. If it turns into an up-and-down game with lots of chances Zenit will win comfortably.
Tickets to the Rangers vs Zenit game are still available.
