We have the franchise Quarter Back, we have some of the best receivers, we have some solid TE's, and a great Offensive Line.

I know people give our defense alot of criticism but I think we have a few young players ready to step up and lead the team. Last years defensive rookie of the year Jarod Mayo, I look for him to lead our defense.

But one position I'm not sold on is RB's

Laurence Maroney

Laurence Maroney was our first round pick in 2006. He first split carries with Corey Dillon, then started to make a lot of progress finishing the year off with 745 yards and 6 TD with 175 attempts, which was good for a rookie.

In 2007 when he took over as starter, he did a great job, but got injured and finished off the year with 835 yds 6 TD's.

Maroney played in Super Bowl XLll and didn't play to well.

In the 08-09 season, his seson ended pretty early due to injury and was placed on injured reserve.

My point is, does Maroney have what it takes to be the number one back for the Patriots?

Fred Taylor

Fred Taylor has been a great RB for the Jacksonville Jaguars for many years.
He has rushed for a career 11,271 yrds and 62 TD's.

But unfortunately what happens to many running backs throughout the years?

The start to decline!

I know Taylor isn't who he use to be, but he is still a great prensence in the backfield. He's a leader. But he can't handle the load any more. He's too old!

Kevin Faulk

I choose this picture because this is what he does best, catching the ball!

I've seen him run the ball sometimes, and if he catches the defense off guard he grabs some yards but it doesn't take to much to bring him down.

He's always been our third down back.

This is his role

I dont see him carrying the ball like 200 times.

Final thoughts!

I do think the Patriots will do well this season.

But I believe, we as a team are missing that one key piece for us to be Super Bowl contenders. A running game.

I have confidence in Brady, but I think we need to ease him back into the NFL.
We need Brady to be healthy so I do think we need to run the ball more.

Are our Running Backs going to step up?
