There is a reason why Detroit won the President's Trophy and cruised to the conference finals.  They are an unbelievable team.

They showed it tonight, dominating the Dallas Stars from start to finish, taking game one by a score of 4-1.

Brian Rafalski opened the scoring just 4:28 into the game with a power play goal.  On a 5-on-3, Niklas Lidstrom hit the post on a slap shot, and the rebound came back to Raflaski, who wristed the shot past Marty Turco, who did not even see the puck coming.

Johan Franzen continued his hot playoff streak, scoring the Wings' second goal, which turned out to be the game winning goal, and a tip in from a shot by Niklas Kronwall.

The other two Detroit goals were scored by Tomas Holstrom and Valtteri Filpulla.  Brendan Morrow was the loan goal scorer for Dallas, after they were already down 4-0.

The game was fast, exciting, and extremely physical; many bone-crunching hits were made, including the hit of the game, which was made by Niklas Kronwall.  He obliterated Jere Lehtinen at the Dallas blue line in the middle of the second period with a beautiful open ice shoulder check.  He may have left his feet slightly, but no penalty was called.

Chris Osgood was one of the stars of the game, making 20 saves on 21 shots, for a save percentage just over .950.  Turco stopped 27 of 31 shots.  Osgood's GAA continues to drop throughout these playoffs, as he is still undefeated this postseason at 7-0.

Tomas Holstrom had an almost Gordie Howe hat trick, with a goal, an assist, and a penalty.  Perhaps that could be considered one in the playoffs, as fights are extremely rare during the postseason.

Game two is on Saturday night at 7:30 on Versus in Detroit.
