Nnamdi Asomugha vs Wr's 2009
Nnamdi Asomugha is one of the very few TRUE Shut Down Corners in the league. In the first 14 games of the 2008 season, teams only threw his way 33 times, and he allowed no TD's. That is pretty impressive considering how much league rules have changed to benefit the Wideouts. What used to be considered great coverage back in the day is now considered pass interference. Times have changed a lot, even just from the 90's to now. For Asomugha to do what he is doing is amazing to watch. I expect teams to throw his way a little more this year, so just for fun lets look ahead to his matchups with the opposing teams best wideouts.
Chris Chambers twice
Phillip Rivers is one of the Leagues top young QB's, he is very confident in his abilities and is confident in his players abilities. That said, Rivers is also very smart, and I don't expect him to test Asomugha very often. Chris Chambers is ready for Asomugha, but unfortunately my guess is that Chambers will only get thrown to maybe 3 times per game vs Asomugha. Expect Rivers to test Nnamdi deep like last year, but don't expect Chambers to have more than 3 catches this season vs Asomugha.
Dwayne Bowe twice
Dwaybe Bowe is emerging as a playmaking Wide out for the Chiefs, and with Matt Cassel throwing him the ball, expect Bowe to make the Probowl and take that next step as a wide out. This is a match up that will be fun to watch. Tony Gonzales is now gone and I don't see Asomugha covering anyone else but Bowe. I expect Cassel to test Asomugha more than any other QB in the AFC West, look for Cassel to throw Asomugha's way about 8 times this season, and look for Bowe to catch 4 passes vs Asomugha this season.
Eddie Royal or Brandon Marshall?
I'm not sure what is going on in Denver. Will Marshall be around? Will Royal be a solid number 1 option? Kyle Orton is now the QB for the Broncos which is a downgrade from Jay Cutler. I don't imagine they will test Asomugha too much, I see them throwing his way four times this season with 1 catch being allowed.
Roy Williams or Jason Witten
This is going to be the matchup that excites me the most. Tony Romo is not afraid to throw the ball vs any CB. I expect Asomugha to be covering Williams and Witten at times. Look for Romo to test Asomugha more than any other QB this season, throwing his way 8 times, with 2 INT's and 3 receptions.
Andre Johnson might as well be sleeping with a Nnamdi Asomugha Jersey after their last meeting, because he was covered all night and day. Johnson knows this and he will try his best to make sure this does not happen in Houston. Expect Matt Schaub to throw his way 5 times, having 2 receptions vs Asomugha and scoring the only TD vs Asomugha this season.
I'm not sure who is the Eagles number one receiver, but its not an issue with Donovan McNabb as the QB. I don't expect McNabb to text Asomugha much, I see him throwing his way 3 times with no luck.
With Plaxico Burress gone, i'm not sure what Eli Manning is going to do. I don't see him throwing more than twice towards Asomugha and I don't see anyone catching a pass vs Asomugha.
Maybe Plaxico will be wearing a Jets Jersey, that is the only way I see Sanchez throwing the ball towards Asomugha during this game. Maybe he'll try it once, but I don't see anyone catching a pass on Asomugha in this game.
This will be a fun matchup to watch, I see whoever the QB is for the Browns testing Asomugha about 4 times, with 1 catch for Edwards vs Asomugha.
This will be a battle, Ward is Physical and he is a smaller wideout. I see Big Ben taking a couple shots, vs Asomugha but nothing will come out of it. Holmes may be another opponent, but I don't see Pittsburgh testing Asomugha too much. They will throw at him 4 times at the most with 1 catch.
I see moss having the most catches vs Asomugha. He is a short and fast wideout, which may be why Chris Johnson my guard him instead of Asomugha, but if its Santana vs Nnamdi the whole game I see Santana catching four passes, nothing deep, just short slant routes.
Rookie sensation Joe Flacco will not have many options to throw to vs Asomugha, I see him throwing twice his way with no catches.
This one will be the best one of the year, there will be talking from Ocho Cinco before the game and it will continue throughout the game. I see Ocho Cinco having 2 catches vs Asomugha with 6 thrown his way.
