NHL, Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks, San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, Marty Turco, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Preview/Prediction

It’s a sad day in Danielle-land. I’ve put my Sharks jersey in the back of my closet, took down the Sharks schedule off my wall, and threw away the Sharks mini-schedule I kept in my wallet.

Now, I’m making my playoff picks for the Conference Finals. Hopefully I will be able to gain more ground in the standings, because a few teams drove my pool into the ground (Avalanche, Habs, and Sharks).

(No.2) Pittsburgh Penguins v. (No.6) Philadelphia Flyers

Penguins in six.

The reason why I’m picking the Pens to win this series not only because my beloved Sharks are out of the playoffs, but because I think their offense is awesome. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, in nine playoff games, have a combined 28 points. Amazing, right?

I think goaltending is going to be pretty much even in this one. I had my doubts about Marc-Andre Fleury, but his .938 save percentage and 1.76 goals against average really reflect how red-hot he is right now. But honestly, I think offense is going to be a big factor in this series, and Pittsburgh just has more of it.

(No.1) Detroit Red Wings v. (No.2) San Jose Sharks…oh wait…(No.5) Dallas Stars

Red Wings in seven.

Ok, I couldn’t resist. I had to put the Sharks in the heading. I’m taking baby steps, people.

I can’t believe I’m even saying this, but I want the Red Wings to win this series. And I honestly think they can do it, too. They’ve got the offense, an awesome defense, and two great goaltenders. It isn't going to be an easy series, however. I just think the Red Wings have enough depth to get them through a series like this.

The only think I can see getting in the Red Wings’ way is Stars captain Brendan Morrow. God, the guy is just a beast.

It should also be interesting to see how Marty Turco and Chris Osgood match up against each other.

The Sharks taking the Stars to a game six ultimately hurt the Stars, because they are going to be facing a Red Wings team that’s been rested and healthy.

Current Playoff Pick Standings

Derek Harmsworth - 18 points

Me - 14 points

Bryan Thiel - 11 points
