With the departure of Xabi Alonso from Liverpool looking very likely now. We have to start thinking of who Rafa Benitez will look for to replace him.I personally hope he stays, but the new of him leaving is popping up daily and I'm starting to slowly acknowledge the fact that he may actually be leaving. I as a Liverpool fan have watched Alonso over the past 5 years and Ive become a big fan. The passing, The vision, The composure. He's just Brilliant, so losing him would be a blow for the team. He's a very hard player to replace. But here are a few alternatives I thought of
option 1
David Silva, He's a versatile player. He can play either wing, as an attacking midfielder (Gerrard's position), and a striker. He's all attack, but not really a replacement for Alonso. Play him down the Left, what happens to Albert Riera and Ryan Babel?? He'd be a fine addition though, But what about Alonso's Void
option 2
Now if Rafa goes for 20million+ pounds + Sneijder, and then get David Silva. That would be awesome, Sniejder can play alongside Mascherano and behind Gerrard in the 4-2-3-1, Sneijder can make play and he's rapid also very versatile like Gerrard and put silva on the left of that formation then we have a formidable team. The Alonso Loss won't be That hard cos we'll now have Creativity, Hard work and flair. Would be a fun season too
option 3
He's young, He's Italian, and has a fantastic shot; but he's currently injured. and the beginning of the campaign is crucial. We need that Alonso Slot filled up. No offense to Lucas, but he's a steady grower and by the time he turns 25 years of age, I'm sure tonnes of Liverpool fans will be buying his number 21 shirt and praising him. But until then, Alonso's boots are too big for him to fill up. Aquilani would bring something new to the midfield, More assertive than Alonso and at times Unpredictable. Maybe him and a good forward would do us well
option 4
Lee Cattermole, He's English, He's Young and could be an English version of Gattuso. He would be another good addition and is premiership proven. And from the Alonso money we'd still have enough to buy another good player, even Silva or Aquilani.
option 5
Michael Johnson , some believe him to be the next Gerrard and who can blame them. From his energy levels to his Determination, You can see The Gerrard(ness) in him. He would be my favorite English Player to add on to the Liverpool team. He has a bright, bright future. I really hope Rafa signs him. with or without Losing Alonso. But if we lose Alonso, Him and David Silva wud be satisfactory
option 6
It's mouth watering thinking of him linking up with Torres at Anfield. what a strike force it would be. There would be no need to push Gerrard back into Mid field. Just post him behind the two of them and watch the goals reel in. Leave Mascherano as a lone Defensive mid, Then Kuyt to his right, Benayoun to his left and the Fantastic three upfront. Liverpool would be unstoppable. And that number 7 shirt is Vacant too. Hint Hint. Villa wont fill the Alonso void, but he'll bring a new perspective to the team and some Lethal, very Lethal finishing.
option 7
This Man. He would Directly fill the void. He has the vision, the accuracy, everything except Alonso's youth. Pilrlo for me is an all round better player. He's my personal wild Card if Alonso moves. He'd be a fantastic choice and Lucas can Learn from him too. And if there's any change left from the deal, Why not go for Quaresma?
Conclusion
All in all. Just keep Alonso, Its for the best. I hope he stays. Rafa can get Cattermole and M. Johnson too, for the English talent, but Keep Alonso. We love him
