Movies are amazing.

They manage to take our minds and warp them to another world for the couple hours we sit in that theater or in front of our DVD players or computers.

Friday Night Lights is one of the greatest sports movies I have ever seen, in my opinion, other than Slap Shot and Miracle (biased, being a hockey fan).  Based on a true story from Odessa, Texas, Coach Gaines helped inspire his team to a berth in the State Championship.  I won’t tell you how it ends, so just go watch it.  Trust me, it is worth it.

Almost word for word what Herb Brooks actually said that night in 1980, this is, in my opinion, the most inspirational and best sports speech ever written.  The speech led, of course, to that huge win over the famed Soviet Union, and ultimately the 1980 Gold Medal.  Herb Brooks, my hero, is the greatest coach never to win a Stanley Cup.

Every sports fan remembers the night they played the Titans.  And by that, I mean that everyone has seen this speech in the movie.  Motivational, charismatic coaching (acting) makes this movie what it is.  Many life lessons learned, but it is an unbelievable and classic movie.

This is the speech at Gettysburg, when the coach explains to the Titans about the Battle of Gettysburg, and how they need to come together to be a team.  It was an unbelievable and moving speech that truly sums up the Civil Right’s movement.

Rudy! Rudy!  This is the trademark speech for any high school or college team, explaining to the seniors it is the last time they will be playing this game.  It was basically the speech my coach gave in our championship game.
