The Red Sox have designated SS Julio Lugo for assignment. This means they have 10 days to trade or release him.

No one will trade for him and take on his large salary knowing they can sign him for league minimum a week from now.

I think its a no brainer for the Mets to pick this guy up. He would fit well and he probably thinks the Mets are an ideal location since he would start on a big stage.

He would also be coming back home. Lugo who was born in the Dominican Republic grew up in Brooklyn and attended Fort Hamilton HS.

Lugo is batting 284 with a 352 OBP. I think he is a solid upgrade offensively from Cora and he can contribute to this team. He is a solid defender and I think he will be a Met very soon.
