Notre Dame secured its 13th commitment today in Spencer Boyd who turned his back on Rich Rodriguez and the Michigan Wolverines as well as Georgia to commit to the Irish.

The 5'10, 169 lb. commit is a very solid capture for the team at South Bend. He is not considered a elite prospect, but he is considered a very good athlete.

He has good speed, nice ball skills, and is a quick, smooth and fluid tackler who is able to bring down players in the open field. He has make up speed and already has a good understanding of how to position himself between the ball and the player.

Scouts have said that he has an above average ability to read the quarterback and has the quickness to make up for any bad angles, although he is known to take good angles to the ball carrier.

He also can be utilized as a return man in college, and has been described as a "slippery" player to wrap up and has the ability to make defenders miss.

Boyd is a very versatile player who could play in zone defense or on the other side of the ball as a back or even spread out to receive.

Once again a nice capture by the Irish who are beginning to put together a very nice recruiting class in 2010. I would expect more defensive backs to be high on Charlie Weis's wish list.
