On May 6th the Jacksonville Suns (AA team of LA Dodgers) took on the Carolina Mudcats (AA team of Florida Marlins). The day before the Mudcats won 11-1 in a butt kicking on the Suns. That night was different. To overcome a blowout the Suns had good fielding, good pithcing and good hitting. James McDonald of the Suns was the man that the Mudcats hated. McDonald pitched 7 innings giving up 5 hits, no runs or allowed any, no walks and 9 strickouts. The man was on fire. On the Mudcats side, Volstad went 8.1 innings and gave up 4 hits, 2 earned runs, 6 walks and 3 strickouts. He was pitching a 2 hits shutout till the 8th when he gave up a single, a walk, RBI single and a intentional walk before the other RBI was scored after he left with a man on. That gave the Suns the 2 run lead with 1 inning left for the Mudcats. The MVP of the game was McDonald for his 9 K, 0 W, 5 H in 7 innings. The Suns are 15-17, 3rd in the Southern League South Division, 2 games back of the Birmingham Barons who ae 16-15. The Mudcats are 18-14, 3rd in Southern League North Division, 4 games back of the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx.
