Almost exactly one year ago, Borussia Dortmund fans started a tongue-in-cheek #FreeShinji campaign.

The hashtag was intended to show support for BvB's much-loved former midfielder, Shinji Kagawa, who moved to Manchester United in the summer of 2012 and found himself woefully underused by David Moyes last season.

Now, of course, the Japanese star has been released from the Red Devils' clutches and back into the loving embrace of Jurgen Klopp...

With Kagawa finally back at the Westfalenstadion, Operation #FreeShinji has reached a happy conclusion. Accordingly, its perpetrators celebrated this week with a roadside sign in Dortmund that read, "mission completed."

Well done to all involved! Now if only someone can free Shinji from the nightmarish grip of his hallucinations that involve talking dogs and porpoises...
