This used to be a place where excellence and success was rewarded and ineptitude and failure was punished. Those days are dead. We are now striving for universal equality. The problem with equality is everyone has to be equal. This involves bringing up the bottom and bringing down the top. There is no reward for success and no punishment for failure. Unfortunately this absurd mentality has trickled down to the one place that should have been immune: sports. Sports is the very definition of fair, if you play well enough you win, if you don’t play well enough you lose. Those days are dead.

The WNBA is a league that was started and funded by the NBA. The commissioner of the NBA David Stern started the league with the hope of bringing more fans to professional basketball in America. The WNBA was launched in June of 1997. The NBA pours millions of dollars into the league every year to keep it afloat. Attendance at WNBA games is pathetic averaging a generous estimate of 7,931 per game in 2008. Their TV ratings averaged 0.32 which is more than 70% lower than the NBA. All this ineptitude has forced 5 WNBA teams to fold up since 2002. Between the NBA, NFL and MLB, zero teams have folded up in the last 50 years.

The WNBA is a leach on the NBA. After 12 years of being in business the league still hemorrhages millions of dollars every year and the NBA is picking up the tab. The league is not supported by men or women. The league is a failure on every level and yet it continues to exist.
