Tottenham and England's Under-21s have received a blow after it was announced that Eric Dier has picked up an injury, the severity of which is as of yet unknown.

The Football Association reported that after joining up with Gareth Southgate's side on Sunday, Dier was forced to withdraw from the squad, returning to White Hart Lane for treatment:

Spurs' summer signing was set to take part in the 2015 UEFA U21 European Championship qualifiers against Moldova and Lithuania, hoping to add to the seven appearances he already holds at Under-21 level.

The specifics of Dier's injury are unknown at present, but Mauricio Pochettino will fear losing a player who's adapted well to life in north London since moving from Sporting Lisbon.

Dier scored in each of his first two games since joining Spurs and already looks a solid addition to the back four.
