Andres Iniesta will be absent from the Spanish squad for the upcoming fixtures against France and Macedonia after being forced to withdraw with a knee injury.

"The Medical Services are currently working to determine the extent of the injury," Barcelona's official website announced on Saturday.

Inside Spanish Football confirmed the Barcelona playmaker would miss the friendly against Les Bleus on September 4, as well as the Euro 2016 qualifier against the Macedonians on September 8.

Vicente del Bosque is yet to call up a replacement, but Manchester United's Juan Mata is mentioned by Inside Spanish Football as a contender to fill in for his compatriot.
