The St. Louis Rams, reeling from the loss of quarterback Sam Bradford to a season-ending injury, are pegged as three-point underdogs against the Miami Dolphins this week in their fourth and final game of the NFL preseason betting slate.
Bradford, who had been a 100-1 long shot in NFL betting to win MVP honors this season, suffered a torn ACL in the Rams’ 33-14 win over the Cleveland Browns this past weekend. The injury is to the same knee that Bradford shredded last season in a Week 7 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
The Rams have been a dismal 2-5, both straight up and against the spread, in preseason games dating back to last year, and are winless in their last three against Miami, dating back to 2004.
“But we wouldn’t be surprised to see them win here to close out the preseason, mainly because they need to find a quarterback,” said Jack Randall of Odds Shark said in an interview Tuesday. “If it’s Shaun Hill, who hasn’t really played since 2010, he’ll need as many plays from scrimmage as possible to prove himself and to figure out the system.”
The 1-3 Buffalo Bills will try to get back on track following an embarrassing 27-14 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They were booed off the field at halftime by hometown fans after falling behind 24-0.
The Bills are 4.5-point favorites over the Detroit Lions, who visit Ralph Wilson Stadium on Thursday night. Detroit earned its second win of the preseason on Friday, coming from behind to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 13-12. The Lions have dominated the Bills in the preseason, winning their last six meetings, both SU and ATS.
The Jags face a tough test this week when they play host to the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday. Jacksonville is pegged as a 3.5-point favorite over the Falcons in NFL online betting. The Jags have history on their side going into Thursday’s game as well, as they have won their last six preseason dates with the Falcons, who have been a dreadful 1-8 SU in their last nine preseason games.
In other NFL Week 4 preseason betting action, the 2-1 Seattle Seahawks travel to Oakland as 3.5-point road favorites against the 1-2 Raiders on Thursday night. The Seahawks have dominated the Raiders, winning seven of their last eight against Oakland in preseason action, covering the spread on all eight occasions.
The Buccaneers return home on Thursday to take on the 2-1 Washington Redskins. The Bucs are pegged as 2.5-point NFL betting favorites over Washington but have dropped five of their last six preseason games to the Redskins dating back to 1997.
