It was a day of mixed emotions for Manchester United.

First, the club announced that they had landed their long-rumoured target in Angel Di Maria. Then, they were embarrassingly knocked out of the League Cup 4-0 by the third-tier MK Dons.

Both of the developments made plenty of headlines.

Frank Lampard's retirement from international took a back seat to Manchester United.

The Star led with the shocking Manchester United scoreline along with a bit on Olivier Giroud's injury, which could see him out for an extended period of time.

The Mirror led with Manchester United's new signing posing next to a Corvette (Chevrolet are in their first year of being United's shirt sponsor).

The Sun simply called United's loss a disaster and ran a piece with Di Maria's revelations that he didn't actually want to leave Real Madrid.
