Manchester United Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of August 25
If Louis van Gaal did not know how big of a task it would be to rebuild Manchester United, he does now.
The Red Devils have just one point from their first two games of the new campaign, with Van Gaal saying his team will need a "miracle" to win the Premier League this season, per Sky Sports.
However, with Ian Ladyman and Rob Draper of the Daily Mail reporting that Angel Di Maria is destined to become United's new No. 7, it appears the rebuilding programme has been kick-started at Old Trafford.
With only a few days left in the current transfer window, we take a look at some of the transfers LvG could make.

Shinji Kagawa to Return to Borussia Dortmund
Friday, August 29
Shinji Kagawa's disappointing time at Manchester United looks likely to end as former club Borussia Dortmund offer him a way out of Old Trafford.
The Metro report that the Bundesliga club have tabled an £8 million offer for the Japan international as Louis van Gaal looks to thin his squad.
And Enrico Passarella of GianlucaDiMarzio.com says Jurgen Klopp is pushing for the player's return before the end of the current transfer window.
Kagawa has failed to shine since joining the Red Devils in 2012 and is now surplus to requirements after the arrival of Angel Di Maria.

Thursday, August 28
Manchester United have renewed their interest in Sporting Lisbon's prodigal midfield talent, William Carvalho.
Ogden writes that United believe they can get the player for substantially cheaper price than his £37 million buy-out clause, with Sporting keen to sell before the current transfer window ends.
United were alerted to midfielder's cheaper availability during negotiations with Angel Di Maria's representatives—who also act on behalf of Carvalho, per Ogden.
Ajax Say They Will Listen to Daley Blind Bids
Wednesday, August 27
Dutch giants Ajax have admitted that they will listen to offers for their defensive utility man, Daley Blind.
Jamie Sanderson of the Metro reports that the club's technical director Marc Overmars says a deal might take place which sees Blind leave the team in the next week, per De Telegraaf:
"We want to keep Blind for another year, but if the offer is high, we’re happy to talk. There is some movement around Blind – people are enquiring here and there."
Sanderson says Ajax want £17 million for Blind but that United are only willing to pay closer to £10 million.
Blind served under Louis van Gaal at the recent World Cup and impressed in a number of roles.
United Target Lucas Silva Keen on Switch
Tuesday, August 26
Hot Brazilian prospect Lucas Silva has admitted that he "dreams" of playing in Europe, with his agent confirming talks have begun with Manchester United.
The 21-year-old midfielder from Cruzeiro is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in South America and Louis van Gaal is now interested in the player.
Lucas commented to Superesportes, per Paulo Freitas of Sky Sports:
“I have the dream of playing in Europe, but I don't want to leave Cruzeiro the wrong way.”
Freitas says that Lucas is currently rated at €10 million.
The player's agent, Luis Rocha, also recently spoke to Superesportes, per Jamie Sanderson of the Metro, and confirmed his initial talks with United:
There are not many details that I can tell you, but I can confirm that I was approached by people linked to Manchester United. We are now just waiting for the official proposal.
Sanderson adds that Chelsea are also known to be interested in Silva.
Juan Cuadrado Refuses to Rule out Move
Tuesday, August 26
Colombian superstar Juan Cuadrado has refused to rule out a move to Manchester United before the end of the current transfer window.
"My future does not depend on me, there is still time until the market closes, no?"
La Viola coach Vincenzo Montella had recently seemed to have closed the door on an immediate exit for Cuadrado whilst speaking to La Nazione, per Strange:
"He's been here in the past, he is here now and he will be here in the future."
Strange says that with United on the verge of concluding a £60 million deal for Angel Di Maria, that Cuadrado would cost upwards of a further £30 million. However, Fiorentina are confident of retaining the highly-rated wide utility player.
Louis van Gaal Name-Drops Arturo Vidal
Monday, August 25
Louis van Gaal has ramped up the chase for Arturo Vidal by name-dropping him in two successive interviews.
Alex Richards of the Daily Mirror quotes the Dutch coach addressing questions about the potential deal for Angel Di Maria on Sunday:
I cannot say anything about transfers and you have to understand that. When a transfer is finished, then we say anything. But now you have to wait and see. If the moment is there, Manchester United shall announce it.
But it is not only Di Maria. Maybe Vidal or Messi. We are a big club.
LvG's words confirm that United would like Vidal if Juventus were open to a deal.
Teddy Cutler of The Independent had claimed that Van Gaal was unsure about a move for the Chile midfielder due to a recent knee injury.
However, it seems that the player is very much in the United manager's immediate thoughts.
Manchester City to Hijack Angel Di Maria Transfer?
Monday, August 25
Despite confidence from Manchester United that Angel Di Maria will soon be their player, reports suggest that Manchester City have entered the race for the attacker's signature.
Duncan Castles of The Times (subscription required) says that United's noisy neighbours want to hijack the Red Devils' deal for the Real Madrid superstar and will assess if they can make a move this week.
Castles reports that City will see if they can solve their Financial Fair Play restrictions by possibly offloading Alvaro Negredo before moving for the Argentina winger.
Vaishali Bhardwaj of the Metro says City will try to raise £50 million from sales, but United are still firm favourites to capture Di Maria.
