Brian Griese Released by Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced they have released quarterback Brian Griese. Griese played his last two seasons in Tampa, where he also spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Griese's father is the legendary Bob Griese.

The Buccaneers currently have four quarterbacks on their roster: Josh Johnson, Luke McCown, Josh Freeman, and Byron Leftwich.

McCown or Leftwich will likely start the season, but Freeman is the quarterback of the future. One of Johnson, Leftwich, or McCown could actually be cut before the season starts.

Griese had a bad season last year throwing five touchdowns and seven interceptions. Griese started five games. Griese's best season came in 2002, his last year with the Broncos, when he threw for 3,214 yards.
