Simple praise for his countryman or a stirring of the pot directed at his side's city rivals?

After Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid played to a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup, Atletico boss Diego Simeone lavished praise upon compatriot Angel Di Maria, who entered for Real as a 78th-minute substitute.

He called him Real's best player.

Di Maria has, of course, been the subject of rampant transfer rumours, with PSG and Manchester United linked as potential suitors for the midfielder, per the Mirror

"The game changed with Di Maria," Simeone told AS (h/t beIN Sports). "It's logical—he's the best player they have. He's the most dominant player in pushing the play up the pitch."

As if the Madrid clashes needed to get any juicier.
