The group stage of the Gold Cup has concluded with many story lines.
Guadeloupe qualifies for the second straight Gold Cup tournament. The United States wins their group despite having the "B" team out.
Mexico overcomes serious problems in the group stage to win their group. The CONCACAF Gold Cup now enters the knockout stage, where anything can happen.
These are my predictions for the rest of the tournament.
Canada surprised many with their results in the group stage.
They won Group A with seven points.
Honduras came in second place in Group B with six points.
Canada has played some impressive football in this tournament, and Honduras' only noteworthy performance was their 4-0 win against Grenada.
I expect Canada to control the match, giving Honduras a few chances to escape with the win.
Canada wins 2-1 with a late goal.
This match will be a little closer than some people expect. Panama plays extremely defensive football that can, and will, annoy their opponents.
If the United States isn't careful, they may end up giving up a crushing counter attack goal.
I expect a very rough game with lots of bookings. In the end, the United States will keep their cool and score from a set piece.
Their keeper (USA) also makes a few key saves late in the game.
United States win 1-0.
Costa Rica are atop the CONCACAF World Cup Qualification table, but have not played in that form this tournament.
Guadeloupe, on the other hand, have played excellent football. Despite their 2-0 defeat to Mexico, Guadeloupe has created a host of chances, while their defense has held their own.
I expect a goal haul in this one, and it will be decided by the penalty shoot-out.
The match ends 3-3 after regular time, and Guadeloupe wins 4-3 in penalties.
Mexico has had an interesting tournament.
Mexico started the group stage by barely beating Nicaragua, and has put in a disgraceful performance against Panama.
Then in their third and final match of the group stage, Mexico played a wonderful game against Guadeloupe, holding them to only one shot on goal.
Haiti plays a strong match in the first half, while Mexico wastes chances.
In the end, Mexico overpowers the inferior team and wins 2-0.
In a rematch of the 2007 semi-final, Canada upsets the home side 2-1. The United States plays a poor match against the surging Canadians.
Canada goes up 1-0 early, before the United States equalizes around the 60th minute.
Canada then punches their ticket to the Gold Cup final with a late goal to upset the defending Gold Cup champions.
Canada wins 2-1.
Another 2007 semi-final rematch pits Mexico and Guadeloupe together. The two teams played each other in the group stage, where Mexico won 2-0.
I expect much of the same in this match, except Guadeloupe puts up a much better fight.
The match is scoreless for the majority of regulation, until Mexico takes advantage of a defensive mistake by Guadeloupe and scores the winning goal.
Because of wasted chances for Mexico, Guadeloupe will be in the game for the whole 90 minutes.
Mexico wins 1-0.
Mexico defeats Canada in a thrilling final match.
Canada scores on a penalty early to put all the pressure on Mexico. The early goal makes Mexico play sloppy for the first half.
Canada goes into the dressing room up 1-0.
Mexico comes out firing in the second half as they equalize early in the second half.
The rest of the second half is played on the midfield as both teams are afraid to give up the goal that loses the final.
Mexico scores very late in the match to win their eighth Gold Cup title, and first since 2003.
The Gold Cup is won around the 75th minute.
