The Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot reported that Benjamin was being tested for a concussion by the team's medical staff on the sidelines during Monday night's preseason game against the Washington Redskins:

The Browns later provided an update:
WR Travis Benjamin has passed concussion tests but will sit out the rest of the game (rib injury)— Cleveland Browns (@Browns) August 19, 2014
The 24-year-old is listed as third in the team's depth chart behind Gordon and Andrew Hawkins. If Gordon is suspended by the league, Benjamin would obviously take on a larger role in the offense.
In the event that Benjamin did suffer a concussion, it will only compound the headache the Browns coaching staff is feeling at the moment. Every player responds differently to a concussion, so there's no telling how long he could be out.
At least Cleveland has a couple more weeks left in the preseason to allow Benjamin to recover before the regular season gets underway.
